In Cinque Terre, in Northern Italy, you can hike for miles along the cliffs overlooking the Ligurian Sea. These paths connect five medieval villages, and along some of them are votives built into the rock walls, with prayers to the Virgin Mary. You can light candles and make offerings right there along the trail. Such a lovely custom, to offer a prayer surrounded by the beauty of nature.
